Ode to my new Kindle

I'd always thought to use a Kindle
On a par with mortal sin-dle,
Thoughts of books consigned to bin-dle
Sent small shivers up my skin-dle.

But my wonderful son gave me one for Christmas, and I LOVE it!

  1. Ha, ha - I knew you would once you tried it, Frances! I love mine too but I still like to read print books in between. The kindle makes it so much easier (too easy?) to buy lots and lots of books.

  2. I can see a Kindle could have a place. I'm sure I'll succumb one day. Hope you enjoy it Frances.

  4. I love your ode, Frances - and I have to agree, I love mine too! I think most people (including me) who thought they wouldn't like them, change their mind as soon as they get one! It won't replace books - I still read both formats. But it's SO easy to read on (great for reading in bed) - fantastic for travelling around (slips into handbag, light as a feather), and I agree with the other comments: it's almost too easy to buy books on it! Best new gadget for many years IMO!

  5. Sorry, I meant that I love my Kindle, not I love my ode. I haven't written one, although I'm tempted now I've read yours!!

  6. Rosemary, I agree there's room for both, but with every bookcase full to bursting, this does solve a bit of a problem. And it's so neat!

Maggie May, once you have one, I'm sure you'll love it.

Oh Paty, how true. Talk about the (expensive) click of a button!

    Olivia, do write an ode!

  8. Two years ago, I fell in love with ebook readers when I worked for a week at the Frankfurt book fair and my job was to present what was called a flatreader. To this day, I do not own one, but I am thinking about asking for one if anyone should ask what I'd like for my birthday. I do travel regularly, and I always travel with as little stuff as possible, so that will help me to reduce said stuff even more.

  9. OK, Frances - ode coming up! Check out my blog ... I'll give your original ode a plug, of course!

Librarian, you're so right about a Kindle making travelling easier. NO books to cram into the suitcase!

  10. I love mine too, thoughthere is nothing like the smell and the feel of a new book, and the wonderful atmosphere of a book shop and the specila smell of antique books. I think they're here to stay. That said, I find my kindle easier to read and handle; AND when I last went away recently, I took more than 30 books with me. Both have their place.
